What it checks
When the domain was first registered, from the registry’s WHOIS record.
Which company holds the registration, so you know where to log in to renew or transfer.
When the registration lapses. A lapsed domain is the fastest way to lose a website and its rankings.
Older domains with a clean history tend to be trusted faster when new content is added.
How to read it
Not directly. Google has said age itself is not a factor, but older domains usually have more links, more history and more trust, which are. A ten-year-old domain with a new site often ranks faster than a brand-new one with the same content. When you buy an aged domain, check its history with the Wayback Machine first.
Look at the expiry date of your own domain once a year. Domains lapse because the card on file expired or the email went to a former employee, and recovering one after it drops can cost thousands or be impossible.
