Every image on the page
Content images, logos and icons, with the file each one loads.
Free SEO tool
Enter a page address and get a list of its images with the alt attribute of each and the length of the text. Missing or empty alt text costs you image search traffic, accessibility compliance and a ranking signal Google still reads.
Run the tool above and the result appears here.
What it checks
Content images, logos and icons, with the file each one loads.
The text screen readers announce and Google indexes, with a character count. Empty alts are shown as empty.
Images without alt text fail WCAG and the ADA checklist. The list is your fix list.
Descriptive alt text is how product and project photos rank in Google Images.
How to read it
Describe what is in the picture the way you would to someone on the phone: “Walnut dining table with six chairs in a Fort Collins showroom”, not “table” and not “dining table furniture store Fort Collins best”. Decorative images, such as background flourishes, should have an empty alt so screen readers skip them.
AI assistants and Google’s image understanding both read alt text when they decide what a page shows. Product photos, before-and-after shots and team photos with real descriptions give them more to cite.

An empty alt (alt=””) tells screen readers the image is decorative and to skip it. A missing alt attribute leaves them to read the file name aloud. Content images need real text; decorative ones need an empty alt.
It helps the image rank in image search and it tells Google what the page is about. It is a small factor for the page and a large one for the image.
CSS background images have no alt attribute and are invisible to the test, and to screen readers. Content images should be real img tags.
