What it checks

What the Content Readability Checker looks at

Flesch Reading Ease

A 0 to 100 score; higher is easier. Most business pages should sit between 60 and 70.

Flesch-Kincaid grade

The US school grade needed to follow the text. Aim for seventh or eighth grade on a service page.

Coleman-Liau and ARI

Two more grade-level estimates based on characters and words, so one odd score does not mislead you.

Text statistics

Sentences, words, average words per sentence and syllables per word, which tell you what to change.

How to improve a score

Shorter sentences move every score. Cut sentences over 25 words in two, replace three-syllable words with plain ones where the meaning holds, and start sections with the answer. A service page written for a seventh-grade reading level is not dumbed down; it is the level most adults read at comfortably on a phone.

Why readability matters for AI search

AI Overviews and assistants prefer passages that state one idea plainly, because those are easier to extract and quote. Readable pages are also the ones that convert: a visitor who has to re-read a sentence usually leaves instead.

FAQ

Questions about this tool

Anything else? (970) 399-9004 reaches a person in Fort Collins, not a call center.

The score looks too hard but my page is simple. Why?

The tool reads everything on the page, including the menu and footer. Long navigation labels and legal text pull the score down. Judge the trend between pages rather than the absolute number.

Should every page score the same?

No. A technical article for engineers can sit at a higher grade than a plumbing service page. Match the reader, then make it as plain as the subject allows.

Which score should I trust?

Flesch-Kincaid grade level is the most widely used. When the four disagree sharply, the text usually has very long words or very long sentences; the statistics table shows which.

Do you rewrite pages for readability?

Yes. SEO copywriting and web content writing both include a readability pass, and every page we publish is checked with this tool.
